This week was maybe one of the biggest production weeks yet this season for NoMad Farms. We had our first CSA pick-up and we were able to get out of our garden for a bit and farm a little. This week we experimented with a two wheel tractor hay set up. Most of this will be used for mulch in our gardens and some will be used to feed to our small population of Angora bunnies. On top of all that we found we were still able to get several hundred feet of summer produce sets and flowers in the ground. A great Memorial Day weekend and great week.
One of the things we have been looking forward to the most is our melon production. We opened up fresh land a couple weeks ago and now it is time to set our melon plants and get going on our winter squash and sweet potatoes. There was a shift this week that moved away from the spring. Summer set this weekend and the gardens are taking the vertical shape of the summer season. It is nice to wander through the gardens and begin to feel this momentum. This spring has been interesting to navigate. Our second round produce is jumping better than the first plantings. So much for sequential plantings~ with the late freezes and frost all that can be done is keep planting on dry days and keep sowing greenhouse flats on wet days. Eventually the season hits its summer stride and that shift could definitely be felt this weekend. Couldn’t have been better timing for our first variety produce boxes to ring in the beginning the summer transition.
We are excited to have local beekeeper, Fritz’s Apiary honey, in our store. Check out our vendors page and Fritz’s Apiary to see Fritz’s honey for only $10/lb. Add it to your veggie box or order by itself. Fritz has been beekeeping for 20 years and loves his bees, this is apparent in the taste and quality of the honey.
